Dr. Martens

DR. MARTENS

Northampton, UK

Dr Martens, popularly known as “DMs” were conceived because Dr Marten of Munich, Germany owned a garage full of inventions one of which included the sole of a shoe that was almost completely made of air. At the same time in Northampton, UK, the Griggs family were making footwear of high quality. Through a magazine advert, apparently the two sides arranged to meet. And they got busy creating the legendary label we have come to love and respect.

The first pair of Dr. Martens 1460 boots rolled of our production line on the 1st April 1960 and we’ve been making them ever since. They make boots and shoes like no other company on earth, and Dr. Martens have become a design classic, adopted by a succession of sub-cultures as a symbol of personal self-expression, individuality and standing for something. Dr. Martens shoes and boots have been worn by workers (for whom they were originally designed), but also by rebels, non-conformists and free thinking individuals of all types for over five decades.
